Ipedo Announces 2004 EII Survey Results

Findings Show Emphasis on Operational Decision Making; Two-Thirds Combining Structured and Unstructured Data Assets

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., February 1, 2005 – Ipedo, a leading provider of enterprise information integration software, today announced the release of its 2004 Enterprise Information Integration (EII) Survey results, which showed growing momentum for EII projects and increased scope in integration goals. Ipedo polled more than 60 leading users of data integration technologies, including CIOs, enterprise architects, and vice presidents of IT. The respondents worked in a wide variety of industries including financial services, energy, manufacturing, defense, retail, and government.

The comprehensive survey included questions focused on why organizations are using EII, how they use the integrated information, the number and composition of data sources in EII projects, and details on the EII implementation team and the IT and development environment. Some highlights of the study include:

Primary Drivers: Organizations are starting to recognize the power of EII to enable enterprises to quickly merge different types of data in a low-overhead manner, with 57% of respondents naming "better access to information" as their main driver for using EII. The second most common response was "more flexible integration approach" with 47%.

Main Uses: One advantage of EII is its ability to retrieve up-to-date information on demand, with over two-thirds of respondents planning to combine XML data with relational sources. Half of the respondents will use EII to generate information that "supports operational decision making."

Information Destination: A significant benefit of EII is the ability to use consolidated information across a range of applications. Of the respondents, 54% plan to use a Web-based application to view the integrated information, and 52% planning to add value to their investment in business intelligence and reporting tools by extending the range of data that their Business Intelligence suite can access.

"Companies have big plans for EII, both in terms of the number of data and content sources to integrate, and in the number of users an EII platform will support," said Nick Zhang, CEO of Ipedo. "This study clearly shows that EII is an increasingly important part of enterprise data infrastructures across a wide range of industries."
